Once the File Download window opens, select Run. To download and Install the Microsoft MSR Tool, go to Microsoft Download Center A built-in tool in Windows called the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT) checks your computer for malware and removes any threats it discovers. Microsoft do update it regularly but it should not be considered a replacement for McAfee. Note: MSR Tool is a once off utility that will only find a certain set of spyware/viruses at any given time. The tool creates a log file named mrt.log in the %WINDIRÞbug folder. When the detection and removal process is complete, the tool displays a report describing the outcome, including which, if any, malicious software was detected and removed. The Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool checks Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows Server 2003 computers for and helps remove infections by specific, prevalent malicious software, including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom. MSRT finds and removes threats and reverses the changes made by these threats.
